Science in the 18 Mahāpurāṇas: An Indian Knowledge Systems Initiative
The Purāṇas, often revered as ancient texts of various stories, are also rich repositories of India's civilizational knowledge. Embedded within their narratives are profound reflections on astronomy, life sciences, environmental ethics, psychology, governance, and more. This project, anchored in the Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) framework, seeks to rediscover and reinterpret these scientific insights found across the 18 Mahāpurāṇas. By engaging with these texts critically and contextually, we aim to bridge ancient wisdom from a critical perspective and open new pathways for integrative research.
This collaborative effort brings together experts from diverse backgrounds—engineering, philosophy, and the natural sciences—who are committed to uncovering the scientific spirit embedded in India’s sacred lore.
